How much wind power will Europe install in 2025?

The EU-27 accounts for 231 GW of the total installed capacity, 210 GW onshore and 21 GW offshore. We expect Europe to install 187 GW of new wind power capacity over 2025-2030. The EU-27 should install 140 GW of this – 23 GW a year on average. This would bring total installations in Europe and the EU to 450 GW and 351 GW respectively by 2030.

How much wind energy does the EU need?

For the EU to reach its 42.5% renewable energy target by 2030, wind energy installations need to average 33 GW a year between 2024 and 2030. This is based on an installed wind power capacity target of 425 GW3. Wind farm installations in Germany were the highest in Europe last year, accounting for 25% of installed capacity onshore.

How much wind power is installed in Europe?

A total of 272 GW of wind power capacity is now installed in Europe. 87% of this (238 GW) is installed onshore and 13% (34 GW) is ofshore. In the EU-27 the total installed wind power capacity has reached 220 GW, with 201 GW (91%) onshore and 19 GW (9%) ofshore. FIGURE 11. The growth of wind power capacity in Europe, 2014-23

How much wind energy does the EU+UK generate?

Wind energy generation in the EU+UK also reached record levels (545 TWh), meeting 20% of electricity demand in the region. The UK’s ofshore fleet generated 46 TWh, almost matching the entire electricity demand of Greece (48 TWh).
